Missing the Good Eats

Tonight, Roelof and I had the opportunity to go out for our anniversary.  Being new to the town here we thought we'd go to a familiar place and chose East Side Marios.  Having been there a number of years ago, we remembered really enjoying the food.  I don't know what it is, maybe its because we were so spoiled in Grand Rapids with having fabulous restaurants, but the food at East Sides was very disappointing.  The pizza I had was worse than some frozen pizzas out there and Roelof's pasta dish was dry and gummy and probably cooked from frozen state.  In the States if you ordered a meal like this it would have probably cost around $20 to $30 and that would be okay.  But here prices are so much higher so we almost cried when we saw the bill.

We are definitely missing our local Grand Rapids spots.  There was so many choices of restaurants and so many choices of good food.  Even "fast" food restaurants like Chipotle and Qudoba are so much better than the chain restaurants here.  Once you eat at places like San Chez, The Green Well, Olives and Rose's you can't go back to these restaurants in Canada.  Maybe we were too spoiled.  Oh well our next mission is to find some locally owned restaurants with fresh cooking!
